Linux Hive at LAU Byblos

    On Tuesday March 19th, we held a presentation at LAU Byblos in which we briefly introduced Linux, what it is, where it is used, and what makes Linux-based OS's different.

For anyone who hasn't yet tried out a Linux distribution, head to the Download page on Ubuntu.com and check out the options you have (Easy way: Windows Installer 

Proper way: Download ISO and burn onto a CD or USB stick).

Linux Hive Action List

   As Linux Hive, our mission is to educate and raise awareness about the existence, uses, and benefits of Linux and Open Source software --especially in Lebanon and the region.

   As such, we have come up with this Action List of things we have decided to work on achieving:

 

   Linux Hive Action List:

• Produce English and Arabic video and text tutorials on Linux, the Open Source model, and some Open Source tools
• Participate in Arabic localization of projects
• Hold public training sessions and workshops
• Register as a non-profit in Lebanon and have a public space that people from around the region can attend workshops at

Welcome to Linux Hive!

   Hello everyone!
   Today we had the privilege of participating and speaking at SHARE Beirut, a weekend-long conference on Internet, culture, and activism that took place in Beirut. Our talk was titled "Why Open Source?", and, in a nutshell, it was a reminder that without having access to the source code, neither freedom, nor privacy, nor our basic human right to want to be kind to and share with our peers are guaranteed.

   For anyone who received our Free DVD, be warned that some of the DVDs may have not burned properly due to an issue with our burner. Fear not, for I am uploading our ISO and sharing the link on this website so you may download Linux Hive Ubuntu and the Linux Hive Video Tutorials as soon as they are uploaded.

    Many experts are saying that silicon is beginning to approach the limits of its usefulness in computing, and that different materials and, eventually, completely different approaches will be needed in order to sustain a steady pace of advancement in computing technology. Here are some of the remarkable alternatives that have been proposed. What do You think the future of computing will be like? Introduction

    In 1947, American computer engineer Howard Aiken said that just six electronic digital computers would satisfy the computing needs of the United States. Apparently, Aiken didn't count on the large amounts of data that would be generated by scientific research, the huge spread of personal computers, or the establishment of the Internet, all of which constantly increase our need for more and more computing power.
